The Many Robins
Batman has had his trusted sidekick fighting crime alongside him since 1940. Since then, Batman and Robin have been known as The Dynamic Duo. However, Batman has had many different people take up the role since then, due to some leaving and some being killed, such as Dick Grayson leaving to become Nightwing, to protect Bludhaven, and Jason Todd being kidnapped, beaten and then killed by The Caped Crusader's arch nemesis, The Joker! In a recent poll, people have voted for their favourite Robin. Here are the results: 6. Carrie Kelley Featured in: The Dark Knight Returns
In my opinion, Carrie Kelley is probably voted at number 6 because she isn't as famous as the other Robins. Carrie Kelley has only been known as Robin for a short amount of time because she was an alternate version of Robin in an alternate universe. She fought crime alongside Batman, when he was at an age of 55, returning to the role of The Caped Crusader after retiring in comic and two-part movie adaptation, The Dark Knight Returns. In this universe, Carrie was the third Robin after Jason Todd's death. His death was the reason Batman retired from crime-fighting, however he saved Carrie from muggers, when she was thirteen years old, on his first day back from retirement. From this, Carrie wanted to be the next Robin. She idolized Batman and spent her lunch money to make her own Robin outfit. Equipped with a slingshot and firecrackers, she went out, targeting con men and she eventually found Batman. After saving his life from a gang known as The Mutants, Batman accepted her as Robin. Three years later, Carrie became Catgirl and was still Batman's sidekick. She wore a leopard-print body suit and motorised skates. She was armed with a batarang arm canon. Carrie's job was to over see The Sons of Batman, who fought to save the world from Lex Luthor and Braniac. Carrie wanted to take on the new Joker, who was eventually revealed to be a homicidal Dick Grayson. The Joker severly injured her and when she thought she was going to die, she admitted to Batman that she loved him. Elongated Man saved Carrie and Batman stopped The Joker.
5. Stephanie Brown Featured in: Batman: War Games
Stephanie Brown, like Carrie Kelley, isn't well known. She was the daughter of a criminal known as Cluemaster and she tended to 'spoil' her father's criminal plans. Before becoming Robin, she was known as Spoiler. She took up this persona, so she could find out where her father was hiding out and what he was planning to do. After finding out the information she needed, she sabotaged her father's plans. Stephanie became a love interest for Tim Drake and they had a relationship together. Stephanie found out that she was pregnant and got closer with Tim Drake, as he looked after her. After giving birth, Stephanie and Tim fell out, due to Tim accidentally killing someone after they hurt Stephanie. Because of this, Tim was angry and depressed. Stephanie tried to help, but things got worse when Tim's father found out he was Robin and told him to give it up. From this, Stephanie sneaked into the Batcave and told Batman to train her. After becoming Robin, Stephanie was captured by Black Mask. Black Mask tortured her severely to get information about Batman. Stephanie later died in a hospital bed with Batman sat beside her.
4. Tim Drake Featured in: Batman: A Lonely Place for Dying
Tim Drake once met Dick Grayson when he was a child an watched Dick perform at the circus as a member of The Flying Graysons. At the age of nine, Tim saw Robin doing the same gymnastic moves he saw Dick Grayson do at the circus. From this, Tim then found out the true identities of Batman and Robin. After the death of his mother, Tim decided to go to Batman and asked him if he could become the next Robin, after Jason Todd's death. However, it was delayed because Bane broke Batman's back. So Tim joined superhero groups, like Young Justice and The Teen Titans. He also helped Nightwing in Bludhaven. Because of the murder of his father, from the hands of Captain Boomerang, the death of Superboy, and the death of his girlfriend, Stephanie Brown, from the hands of Black Mask, Tim was relocated to Bludhaven with Nightwing, to be with his step-mother in hospital, after she went in shock from Tim's father's death. Tim was given a new Robin outfit in the colours of Superboy's outfit and was adopted by Bruce. After the supposed death of Batman, Tim became Red Robin and Damian Wayne became the new Robin.
3. Jason Todd Featured in: Batman: A Death in the Family
Jason Todd became the second Robin after Dick Grayson became Nightwing and joined The Teen Titans. Jason was the son of circus acrobats, like Dick Grayson, but when his family were killed by Killer Croc, Bruce adopts him. Because of the death of his family, Jason was full of rage and Batman feared that that would make him a criminal, especially when Gotham was overrun by Deacon Blackfire. Jason later found out that his father was killed by Two-Fcae and got even more angry when he found out Batman already knew. Jason located and apprehended Two-Face, by controlling his anger and letting him go to jail. During one of the patrols, Batman and Jason did, they found The Joker. The Joker got away, but Jason chased after him without Batman, which led to Jason being kidnapped and killed by The Joker. Jason was resurrected in Ras al Ghul's Lazarus pit, but the resurrection had side effects that made Jason crazy and dangerous. He then became a criminal known as The Red Hood.
2. Damian Wayne
Featured in: Batman: Son of The Demon
Damian Wayne was the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. He was trained how to fight by Ras al Ghul and was taught to kill. This made things difficult when Damian went to Gotham City to live with Bruce and become the 5th Robin. Damian often disobeyed Bruce and killed criminals by using daggers and swords. Damian worked with Dick Grayson at one point, when Dick temporarily became Batman. Ras al Ghul and The League of Assassins plan to capture and kill Damian Wayne, which then made Batman, himself, Nightwing, Tim Drake and Talia to fight them off. After Batman's supposed death, Damian stayed in Gotham with Alfred with his adopted brothers, Dick Grayson and Tim Drake. Damian, one night, drove around the city in the Batmobile, to find Killer Croc and Poison Ivy. Nightwing saved Damian, but they later found Jason Todd dressed as Batman, trying to kill them. Jason managed to shoot Damian point-blank in the chest and Nightwing rushed him back to The Batcave, and survived. In Batman Incorporated, Damian was killed by his clone, known as The Heretic.
1. Dick Grayson
Featured in: A Knight in Bludhaven
Dick Grayson was the first Robin, introduced in 1940. His acrobat circus family, known as The Flying Graysons, were murdered in front him by mob boss, Tony Zucco. After he witnessed their deaths, Bruce adopted Dick. Dick joined The Teen Titans and had spent less time with Bruce and the role of Robin, so Dick left Wayne Manor after a falling-out. Dick went to Superman for advice on how he could continue to be a crime-fighter, without being Robin. From Superman's advice, he took up the persona of Nightwing. When The Teen Titan members were captured by Deathstroke and brought them to H.I.V.E, Nightwing was determined to save them with a new ally, Jericho. Nightwing was fully committed to working with The Teen Titans and started a relationship with Starfire. The relationship ended Starfire moved back to her home palnet. When Bane broke Batman's back, Dick temporarily became Batman, but when he returned to The Teen Titans, when Batman recovered, Arsenal was the new leader of the group, so Dick left and went back to Gotham City. After Ultraman revealed his secret identity to the world, Dick faked his death, with help from Batman, and became Agent 37 to infiltrate a spy organisation called Spyral.
Well, that's it! I could have guessed that Dick Grayson was going to be the majorities favourite Robin and I could have guessed that Carrie Kelley or Stephanie Brown would have been at number 6. But they didn't stand a chance against Dick, the original Robin, who has, probably, been in the most action, going from Robin to Nightwing, to Batman and to Agent 37 AND also being a member of The Teen Titans!
