Joker's 76th

On the 25th of April 1940, The Caped Crusader's arch nemesis, The Joker was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Initially, however, The Clown Prince of Crime was rejected by Bill Finger and was originally going to be a one-off villain, as he thought he was "too-clownish" and that it would be too boring if he appeared in Batman comics over and over again. Luckily, DC Comics Editor, Whitney Ellsworth, thought that The Joker was too good of a character to kill off. So, when watching The Dark Knight or Suicide Squad, remember that Whitney Ellsworth saved him... The Joker was inspired by the creepy Gwynplaine from The Man Who Laughs from 1928. I would put a picture of this below, but it creeps me out so much, so have a 1940 Joker instead...

Over the years, The Joker has changed drastically. The Joker we know and love today is a lot more darker and insane than The Joker in 1940, and watching his various appearances in movies and animation will show just that! Here's the most famous Joker's portrayed in movies and animation since:

Cesar Romero (Batman, 1966)

Jack Nicholson (Batman, 1989)

Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series, 1990s)

Mark Hamill (Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker, 2000)

Kevin Michael Richardson (The Batman, 2000s)

Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, 2008)

Mark Hamill (Arkham Series, 2009, 2011, 2015)

John DiMaggio (Batman: Under The Red Hood, 2010)

Michael Emerson (The Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2, 2012, 2013)

Troy Baker (Arkham Origins, 2013)

Jared Leto (Suicide Squad, 2016) The Joker has really come a long way! He looks good for 76! Hip-Hip, Hurray! Join us on Facebook!
