Why Batman Fans Should Watch Gotham
Season two of Gotham is over and will return later this year for season three. Season two had various stories showing a wider variety of villains than the season one villains, which is probably why it was called 'Rise of the Villains' for the first half and 'Wrath of the Villains' for the second half of the season.
If you haven't seen Gotham yourself or know someone who hasn't seen Gotham, this article will go through why every Batman fan should watch it!
Bruce Wayne
Over the years, there have been many Batman movies that have short scenes of Thomas and Martha Wayne being murdered, even in Batman vs Superman. But that's all we really see. In Gotham, however, we see how Bruce, Alfred and the GCPD deal with the Wayne murders, which is very new, making episodes unknown and unexpected. We also see Bruce growing older and being in various situations with Jim Gordon and Selina Kyle, as well as seeing him learn to fight.
No Batman
Having no Batman isn't necessarily a bad thing, which some people may think. Without Batman, we get to see what Gotham was like before he was around and we also see how The Caped Crusader's villains become the villains we know today. Because there is no Batman, we see how the GCPD do things in more depth and detail, which we haven't really seen in any movies or games.
The Villains
There are so many Batman villains that make it into Gotham, especially in season 2. We also see the origins of certain villains, such as The Penguin, Mr Freeze and The Riddler! We also see Mob Bosses. like Falcone and Maroni in season 1, trying to take over the city and make it theirs. There are also some made-up villains to make the show more unpredictable.
It Doesn't Always Follow The Comics
The majority of the show is, obviously, based off the comics, like characters and places etc. But not everything is from the comics. Season 1 favourite, Fish Mooney, is a made-up villain for the show and we don't see a Garfield Lynns' Firefly. Instead, we see a female Firefly! Because the show isn't 100 percent based on the comics, again, the show is more unknown and unexpected.
Jim Gordon
In Gotham, Jim Gordon is the lead role. But he isn't the Commissioner yet. We have seen Gordon before he was the Commissioner in the past, from Batman Begins and Arkham Origins, but not as in-depth as we see him in Gotham. In order to stop the various criminals in Gotham, Gordon has no choice but to break the law a few times.
Alfred Pennyworth
In Gotham, Alfred isn't the typical, old butler you may think he is. This Alfred, played by Sean Pertwee, is inspired by the Alfred in Batman: Earth One, being a more violent and awesome Alfred from the war, teaching Bruce how to fight and protecting him from the criminals in the city.
So what are you waiting for!? You're missing out on all of the fun!
